Code of Conduct

2024/2025 Season

Welcome to Cwmbran RFC. Our club is dedicated to fostering a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone involved in the sport of rugby. Whether you are a player, coach, parent, official, or supporter, you play a vital role in maintaining the values and integrity of our club.

The Code of Conduct is designed to outline the standards of behaviour expected from all members and participants associated with Cwmbran RFC. These guidelines are intended to promote respect, sportsmanship, and excellence both on and off the field. By adhering to this Code of Conduct, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, uphold the spirit of rugby, and contribute to the growth and success of our community.

All members, supporters, visitors and opposition must adhere to the following:

  • Always (and publicly) accept officials’ judgements
  • Be on your best behaviour. Do not use profane language or harass, physically or

verbally, players, managers, coaches, referees or assistant referees

  • Applaud all good play by your own team and the other team
  • Condemn the use of violence and verbal abuse
  • Never use foul or aggressive language – remain respectful of each other and promote positivity
  • Support your coaches – The team selection is final and all decisions should be supported
  • The club will show zero tolerance to any drug use on the premises of Cwmbran RFC
  • All club personnel must be treated with respect and courtesy at all times
  • Never make critical statements about referees, club officials, match officials, other players or other teams. This includes comments/posts made on social media

In addition to the above, the following code applies to the following named parties involved with Cwmbran RFC:

 

Players’ Code

  • Play in the spirt of the sport
  • Always play within the rules of the game. Do not get involved in foul play.
  • Support your coaches – The team selection is final and all decisions should be supported
  • Respect the referee and match officials – never argue their decision is final
  • Acknowledge good play by both teammates and opposition players
  • Be a good sport – win with modesty and lose with dignity
  • Cooperate with coach, team-mates and opponents
  • Respect differences in gender, disability, culture, race, ethnicity and religious beliefs
  • Thank officials and opponents after competition
  • Strive to improve as a player
  • Never make critical statements about referees, club officials, match officials, other players or other teams. This includes comments/posts made on social media

 

Coaches Code

  • Comply with the Laws of the Game and ensure all players know the rules of the game
  • Conduct themselves at all times in an ethical and professional manner and shall observe the highest standards of integrity and fair dealing.
  • Play players at an appropriate level, and don’t put players in games where they would be out of their depth skill wise.
  • Encourage your players to take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance
  • Strive to improve each player’s individual skills
  • Accept and observe the authority and decisions of match officials, as well as taking reasonable steps to ensure players and/or other team roles do the same
  • Promote good rugby and skilful play above winning at all costs. Never coach dangerous or foul play
  • Never get involved in touchline arguments with parents, supporter, opposition, match officials and other coaches
  • Never use foul or aggressive language, promote positivity and integrity
  • Communicate in a respectful and professional manner, regardless of the situation
  • Never make critical statements about referees, club officials match officials, other players or other teams. This includes comments/posts made on social media

 

Mini & Junior Parent and Guardian’s Code

  • Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them
  • Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results – role model these behaviours by recognising fair play and applauding good performance of all
  • Children learn best by following a good example - Set a good example by following the code of conduct and encourage your child to follow the code of conduct
  • Applaud all good play and show your appreciation to all officials, team managers, coaches and helpers
  • Reinforce to your child that taking part and trying your best is the most important part of learning and playing rugby. Never punish or belittle a child for loosing or making mistakes
  • Never force your child to take part in sport. Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their sport
  • Accept decisions made by the match officials and encourage the young players to do likewise
  • Never use foul or aggressive language. Conduct yourself in a way that promotes positivity rather than negativity
  • Encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour.
  • Take responsibility for personal actions and behaviour and act with respect and integrity 
  • Respect the coaches and Team managers – they give up their free time to coach the children. Support and accept decisions made on and off the pitch.
  • Communication with coaches and team managers, both verbally and written, will always be respectful and in a professional manner
  • Any concerns should be addressed to the Head coach/Team Manager in the first instance, and if it is not resolved then to the Mini & Juniors Chair or in their absence Vice-Chair
  • Any issues relating to safeguarding of children MUST be addressed to the Club Safeguarding Officer
  • Parents must inform Head Coach/Team Manager of any medical conditions or additional learning needs their child may have
  • Parents must be present at training and matches. Coaches and other club officials cannot act “in loco parentis” and cannot take legal responsibility for children. Please ensure that you appoint a responsible person to look after your child if you are unable to attend. Please notify your Team Manager or Head Coach of any such arrangements.
  • Never make critical statements about referees, club officials match officials, other players or other teams. This includes comments/posts made on social media

Remember:

When you wear the Cwmbran Badge you represent the club. Always be courteous, respectful and show good sportsmanship.

Everyone must always respect our club and premises which is for the use of all members and players. An individual may be charged for repairs for any intentional damage caused.

Any breach of this code of conduct may result in disciplinary proceedings which will be dealt with by a club officer.
